Summertime brings out the campfires and weenie roasts. Save yourself from searching through the woods for a perfect stick and grab the best marshmallow & hot dog roasting sticks that you can get your hands on. Here’s some of our favourites.
If you have a backyard fire pit then you’re going to want to keep a set or two of marshmallow & hot dog roasting sticks on hand. That way you’re ready to go when you want to cook something over the fire.
And does anything taste better than food roasted over an open flame? I don’t think so!
Tips for Roasting the Perfect Marshmallow
Before we get started on the best marshmallow roasting sticks it’s time to brush up on your marshmallow roasting skills. Now, I’m a monster who likes to light mine on fire. There’s something so good about peeling off that burnt black marshmallow skin…
But I’m told that’s not the perfect marshmallow.
First of all, you’re going to want to have a great marshmallow roasting stick. Metal ones are usually better than wood because they heat up on the inside and cook your marshmallow more thoroughly. If you opt for wood, make sure the tip is whittled to a point so you can stab the marshmallow easier.
To get a perfect golden marshmallow you need to be patient. You’ll want a fire that’s been burning for awhile that has plenty of hot coals and not too high of flames.
Hold the marshmallow close to the red hot embers, but not too close so it gets too warm. You should be able to see it slowly changing colour. Slowly rotate the marshmallow so that it gets evenly heated and keep going until it’s golden brown.
The longer and slower your roast, the better the center is going to be.
You can also use a similar technique to cook your hot dogs. If you have a pronged hot dog roasting stick, stick the weiner length wise onto the prongs so it stays in place easier.
How to Make S’Mores
Now that you’ve roasted the perfect marshmallow, what do you do with it? Well you can eat it, but turning it into s’mores is way more fun.
You’ll need: Marshmallows, graham crackers, and a chocolate bar.
To make s’mores, you first need to get two graham crackers ready. At this time you should also break off enough chocolate to cover the graham cracker. Next, roast a marshmallow. Once the marshmallow is cooked, soft, and hot you’re ready to assemble your s’more.
While still on the stick, press set the chocolate between the marshmallow and a graham cracker on one side. Use the other graham cracker to make a sandwich and pull it all together off the stick, pressing down as you pull.
The result should be a gooey marshmallow that melts the chocolate. Eat it together like a sandwich. Yum!
To change it up, use different kinds of chocolate bars for different flavours.

Begatter Roasting Sticks for Campfire and Fire Pit
These solid steel marshmallow & hot dog roasting sticks are sturdier than other similar products on the market.

- Wooden handles are good quality
Cons:
- Only a set of 4 so you’ll need to buy 2 sets to please a crowd

- Can’t be left outside
Best for: Smaller groups looking for sturdy sticks
ANERNAI Marshmallow Roasting Bamboo Sticks
These 30” bamboo sticks are the perfect length for roasting hot dogs or marshmallows. While you can only do one at once, the fact that you get so many sticks in the pack makes up for it.

Pros:
- Made of wood so you don’t need to worry about rust or pieces breaking

These fire pit skewers rotate so you can roast your marshmallows perfectly. They also extend from a tiny 10” fork to a super long 34”, which is perfect for kids to keep far away from the fire.
Buy on AmazonFor extra safety, there’s also rubber stoppers that protect the end of the prongs. These sticks are good for roasting both marshmallows and hot dogs.
Pros:
- Strong and not wobbly even when extended
- Rotate at the handle for even roasting
- Forks are close together which is great for hot dogs
Cons:
- Plastic handles aren’t the best quality

- Good for marshmallows and hot dogs
Best for: Families

Walden Backyards Legacy Series™ Roasting Sticks
This set is the highest end option on this list, and for good reason. If you’re shopping for a set of marshmallow roasting sticks that look as good as they work, this set is for you.
Buy on AmazonThese come in a few options including sets of four or six and safety or non-safety prongs. While they’re not the most high end marshmallow roasting sticks out there the value for money is great on this set.
One thing I like is that the telescoping handle extends farther than other brands, they feel well made, but are also lightweight and easy to store.
Last, but not least, the handle rotates so you don’t have to turn the whole thing to get an even roast.
Pros:
- Good quality
- Safety options are good for kids
- Long handle
- Handle turns without having to rotate the whole stick
Cons:
- Handles feel a bit loose (due to rotating element) which feels sketchy when roasting hot dogs at full extension
- Not dishwasher safe
Best for: Adults, aesthetic
S’More To Love Roasting Reel
This is a fun option for anyone who likes to bring their own roasting stick to an event or if you only need a couple of roasting sticks and want something really easy to use.
Buy on AmazonThe handle on this roasting reel isn’t just to make it look like a fishing rod (although I love that part), it also effortlessly rotates the fork so your hot dogs or marshmallows roast evenly. Once you’re done the fork is removable and dishwasher safe for easy clean up.
While it wouldn’t be my first choice to take camping or on the go since it’s pricier and not as portable as other options it’s definitely a solid choice for backyard cookouts.
Pros:
- Dishwasher safe
- Rotates the fork for even cooking
- Fun design that’s also sturdy
- Fork extends up to 20″
Cons:
- Sold individually
- Less convenient to store than other options
Best for: An individual, kids, or as a gift idea
